Calling Artists – A Great Little Book You Must Read!
One of the main reasons I started this blog was Austin Kleon’s book “Show Your Work!”. I found it at Spoonbill & Sugartown Books in Williamsburg. Come to think of it, they have one of the most dour sales staff in New York City, but their books and printed matter are always interesting, so hey!
Anyway, the book was fantastic and encouraged me to maintain a blog, no matter what! That it was expected I wouldn’t have any readers and to use it as an online workbook. I was psyched.
Recently, I saw the book’s older brother “Steal Like An Artist” at Housing Works Thrift Shops in Park Slope. So I snapped it up, and found it even better than his second book.
God it gets confusing when you read books out of chronological published order.
Anyway, I highly recommend Austin’s book “Steal Like An Artist“. It’s about how to inject influence into the creation of your art. And it’s not just about stealing. I’m going to explore some of his advice about how to write in a more “analog” way before approaching the computer. Terrific!
Check it out, you won’t regret it!
PS I wasn’t paid/sponsored to write this review, I just thought it was a good book.
