I love Halloween! It’s become one of my favorite holidays; the only time during the year when US society basically says “Hey, dress up in whatever you want, you won’t get judged!” And talk about wild, check out all the similarities it has with the ancient pagan holiday Samhain!
I just listened to Meanwhile (aka multi-instrumentalist/singer Tom Andrews) on The Guardian. I gotta say, although he sounds a lot like Prince, I’m digging his music! It’s upbeat, which is imperative as the days grow shorter in NYC.
It’s not often I hear of a place out of literary dreams, so when I was tipped off about a secret bookstore somewhere in Manhattan, I had to visit! I immediately checked out the Brazenhead Books website and sent a message. A secret bookstore in Manhattan? No way!!
Last evening, I stumbled into a fracking protest outside of Barnes and Noble Union Square. I hate fracking so much, I decided to protest too! Cuomo’s first book signing was inside, so the media was buzzing. I got interviewed by NY1. They asked if I would buy Cuomo’s Memoir and I said “I would browse it, but I wouldn’t buy it”. But the resulting coverage by NY1 had NO MENTION of the protest. Come ON NY1!
Imagine my complete surprise when I strolled into a charming gallery nestled in the hills of Western Massachusetts and discovered… it belonged to illustrator and author Greg Ruth! I had no idea, I just thought The Lost Boy poster hung outside was evocative.
I just read on BOOOOOOOM! there’s a brand new social media site out there. It sounds like it was built for artists and designers, like the artsy version of Facebook. It’s called Ello and it’s in BETA right now. So, of course I had to check it out!
Getting to review and shoot the LIGHTS show on Tuesday was a real break for me as a writer/photographer! Before that, I only wrote/photographed concerts for the awesome punk website BigWheelMagazine.com Thinking back on my work with BigWheel, I realized I wanted to post those reviews on TheWanderingHumorist.
