10-10-14 2009: The Year of Online Photo Magazines

I just stumbled across this cool post written by photographer Andrew Gibson back in 2009. It’s on Smashing Magazine about the Top 40 Online Photography Magazines in 2009. I’m embarrassed to say, I didn’t even realize there were photo magazines online!

Here are some titles I thought looked interesting, which were still live:

Photo Eye

MoonCruise – Fashion oriented

Bokeh Magazine

VII Photo

Blur Magazine

Pixel Press

F-Stop Magazine – Has photo competition announcements

Chambre Noir – French, so probably good

Lens Culture

Zone Zero

And here are some from another article in 2009 on PhotoJoJo entitled 10 Online Photography Magazines We Love. Looks like 2009 was the year of the online photo magazine?

Burn

DeepSleep – In the UK

1000 Words Photography Magazine

Purpose – French

FILE Magazine – Looks artsy

Ahorn Magazine

I can only imagine how much work went into each issue. So it’s no wonder why many have gone offline or stopped production. Looking through some of them feels like taking a stroll through an abandoned town. However, they’re a pretty cool format. Check them out on a tablet!
