After reading cross-country photographer Mike Brodie was inspired by Mary Ellen Mark, I’ve been checking out her work. I was surprised to learn she was partly responsible for the ground-breaking documentary “Streetwise”, which documented the lives of homeless children in Seattle, Washington. After shooting the kids for an article in LIFE magazine, her work inspired her husband, filmmaker Martin Bell, to shoot the film.
Many of you probably saw this video when it was released by NASA back in 2012, but I still can’t get over how beautiful it is. As I understand it, it was put together from a series of time-lapse photos from NASA’s Expedition 30 crew, while they were aboard the International Space Station. And Howard Blake composed the enchanting music. It’s such a breath-taking work of Art, I have to share it. How incredible our world is and yet most of us just take it for granted. We don’t see how truly unique we are in our galaxy! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:
As I’ve been thinking about music videos lately, I thought I’d put some interesting black and white work here I could refer back to for inspiration!
