The Thurston Moore Band Blasts through my earplugs at Webster Hall’s Marlin Room on 12-11-14

Thurston Moore rocks Webster Hall 12-11-14

The Scene at Webster Hall

When I arrived at Webster Hall, the crowd was upbeat and conversational despite having had to wait awhile outside in the December air! This cool looking NYC crowd [replete with winter coats and hats] was happy, flocking to the open bar while silk screen printer Hit and Run pressed free posters in neon paint!

Tonight, Thurston Moore, the Godfather of Grunge, was going to play songs from his latest album THE BEST DAY.

11-21-14 NYC Graffiti Artist Chico

A passerby looks at a A painting of Basquiat by NYC Graffiti Artist Chico
Basquiat by NYC Graffiti Artist Chico, Tompkins Square Park June 2012

Thanks to my best friend, I was in Tomkins Square Park on June 3rd 2012, during a big outdoor exhibition. Murals were wrapped around the entire park! It was awesome. While walking around I noticed a superfly boombox, all graffitied up and took a picture. I’d never seen one like it! I saw it again, this time next to a beautiful painting of Jean-Michel Basquiat. By the way, the fellow on the right walked into my shot, but as it happened, it made my photo so much better!

11-17-14 Taboo: A New Yorker Visits Times Square…and Has Fun!

A man is dressed as a Marijuana Leaf in Time Square
We’re in agreement! This man was kind enough to pose for me.

Alan Wilkis and Liz Ryan (the Siren) of Big Data perform at Terminal 5 on 11-12-14

When Warner Brothers Records PR hooked me up with a ticket and photo pass to the Big Data show I was totally psyched! I posted about them in July so I already knew I liked their music. But now I was going to see them live, at a sold out show, opening for Fitz and the Tantrums.

Finding a Writer’s Backpack!

Since my cool V7 backpack has been tearing for several months now, I’ve been searching for a replacement/upgrade. And it’s surprisingly difficult to find a good list of backpacks, suited for an urban writer! Here are my requirements:

  • It has to be black so it won’t pick up stains
  • It must be durable (my V7 lasted 10 months before tearing)
  • It has to have a laptop sleeve that fits a Chromebook
  • Slim enough to wear around New York City and look cool
  • Contain at least several organizational pockets for pens etc.
  • Room for a book and a notepad
  • Under $100

Slice of New York City Life

It’s funny to realize I’m blogging in New York City, and have yet to write anything about life here. Well that ends tonight! I admit after 6 years of New York, I’ve grown used to the frenetic energy. But that to which I can’t adapt, are the wild and crazy people I encounter. Here are some anecdotes.

I was coming home late along 7th Avenue in Park Slope and I noticed a twenty-something walking down the sidewalk laughing in a kooky way. Continue reading
